HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Mazda Toyota Manufacturing has donated $50,000 to the Food Bank of North Alabama to help families affected by the federal government shutdown. The donation comes as over 23,000 federal employees in North Alabama have been furloughed and more than 100,000 residents face delayed SNAP benefits.
“The Food Bank of North Alabama is the driving force in providing access to hunger relief programs to our community,” said David Fernandes, Senior Vice President of Mazda Toyota Manufacturing. “We want to do our part to support the Food Bank in feeding families and ending hunger in North Alabama.”
During the shutdown, the Food Bank has increased the size and frequency of its mobile pantries. It recently hosted a pantry for TSA workers at its Distribution Center near the airport and served hundreds of families at large-scale mobile pantries at Joe Davis Stadium and Milton Frank Stadium in Huntsville.
