Indiana judge tosses suit against Alabama churches trying to stop quarry

An Indiana judge dismissed a lawsuit last week against two Belle Mina churches and a pastor who are trying to stop the operation of a quarry in their community.

The corporation set up by the quarry owners sued of the two churches, Belle Mina Methodist and New Beginnings Covenant Ministries, Belle Mina Methodist Pastor Cody Gilliam and Mitchell-Frazier Farms Partnership Limited in Hamilton Superior Court in Indiana.

The plaintiffs claimed the defendants interfered with a lease contract between Elephant R Us LLC and Stoned LLC, which is owned by the same family. Elephants R Us sought $1.6 million in damages plus attorney’s fees and costs.
