Teen faces terrorism charges after alleged school threat

ATHENS, Ala. — An 18-year-old faces multiple felony charges, including terrorism and attempted murder, after a grand jury indicted him for allegedly threatening Athens High School resource officers online.

Carson Butler was arrested in June while he was still 17 years old after Athens police said he made threats against the school. The grand jury indictment accuses Butler of working with multiple online extremist networks that experts say often encourage violence and target young users.
