MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) – You wouldn’t think throwing rubber chickens off a roof would have a whole lot of historical significance, but as it turns out, Madison’s Christmas Capers event is actually steeped in tradition.
It all started during the Great Depression when drug store owner Doc Hughes threw live chickens off his roof.
They’d flutter to the ground with vouchers attached, offering prizes to the people waiting below…
