American Cancer Society awards $10K to Huntsville Hospital Foundation’s Canines for Coping program

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The American Cancer Society has awarded $10,000 to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation for its Canines for Coping facility dog program.

The grant is designed to strengthen the program’s work with pediatric cancer patients to make sure they and their families experience moments of relief, connection, and joy during treatment.

“Research has demonstrated that animal-assisted therapy provides significant benefits to pediatric oncology patients, including lowered stress and anxiety not only for the patient but also their family.  We believe every child deserves that comfort, and the ACS PAWS program aims to partner with hospitals that are able to provide this type of therapy.
