Ditto Landing trash clean up, nearly 900 pounds pulled from the banks of the Tennessee River

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Nearly 900 pounds of trash were pulled from the banks of the Tennessee River on Sunday as Tennessee Riverkeeper partnered with environmental group Model Environment for a cleanup at Ditto Landing.

According to organizers, 24 volunteers gathered on December 7 to collect 37 bags of trash, two bags of recyclables, four discarded tires, and several pieces of large debris. The haul weighed in at approximately 899 pounds.

Tennessee Riverkeeper has removed an estimated 11,384 pounds of trash from waterways in 2025 alone. Since launching its cleanup program in 2018, more than 56,000 pounds of litter have been kept out of local rivers and streams…
