HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — With the holidays in full swing, many government offices and services are planning closures. While city, county, state, and federal offices are closed on Christmas, other closures may vary.
Huntsville:
- City of Huntsville will close municipal offices Thursday, Dec. 25, for Christmas Day. This includes Animal Services, Parks & Recreation, Public Transit and Municipal Court.
- Residential curbside trash collection will be delayed by one day the week of Dec. 22-26. This means Thursday’s routes will be picked up on Friday, and Fridays on Saturday. Residents should leave carts at the curb until they are collected.
- Essential police and fire personnel will remain on duty throughout the holiday.
- The Huntsville/Madison County Visitor Center® at 500 Church Street NW and the Visitor Information kiosk inside Huntsville International Airport will both be closed on Wednesday, December 24, and Thursday, December 25, in observance of Christmas.
- Both visitor information centers will be open from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, December 26. Regular hours (9 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays) will resume on Saturday, December 27.
- Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) offices will be closed for Christmas from Tuesday, December 23, through Friday, December 26. The offices will reopen on Monday, December 29, at 8 a.m.
Madison:
- All City of Madison municipal buildings and programs will be closed on Thursday, December 25th, in observance of Christmas Day. Normal operating hours will resume on Friday, December 26, 2025.
- The Madison Chamber of Commerce office will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24, through Friday, Jan. 1 for the holidays.
Madison County:
- All county offices are closed Dec. 24-26, 2025
Holiday Sanitation Schedule:
- 12/25/2025 Closed for Christmas Day Holiday,
- 12/26/2025 Thursday’s garbage collected
Decatur:
- City offices are closed on Dec. 25 and Jan, 1.
The City of Decatur will adjust its garbage collection schedule during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays to allow sanitation crews time with their families. Residents should note the following temporary changes.
- Christmas Week
- Standard Thursday collection will run on Friday, Dec. 26.
- Standard Friday collection will run on Monday, Dec. 29.
- New Year’s Week
- Standard Thursday collection will run on Friday, Jan. 2.
- Standard Friday collection will run on Monday, Jan. 5.
- All other collection days will remain on their regular schedule. Residents are asked to place carts out by their adjusted collection day.
