Crowded parking lots and delayed pickups prompt push for new post office in North Alabama

A busy north Alabama post office may soon have a new – and larger – home.

The U.S. Postal Service announced it is considering a new location for the Owens Cross Roads Post Office. The announcement comes amid complaints about overcrowding and delayed pickups.

It also comes after a video by A.J. Williams circulated on Facebook showing buckets overflowing with packages and cars filling the parking lot. The video received numerous comments from people who have dealt with issues at the Owens Cross Roads facility at its current location on Highway 431 south.

Problems for small business owners

Clint Parker, owner of Rocket City Toys, a local toy and collectables store in Owens Cross Roads, said his pickups are irregular and it threatens his partnerships. A previous worker was reliable but after she retired, Parker said the postal employee came when his store was closed and wouldn’t scan packages…
