‘They don’t stop being a parent’: Prison Angel Tree program a local success

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – For many, the holidays are a time to connect with family, but for thousands of Alabama children with an incarcerated parent, that’s not always possible. Nonprofit ‘Prison Fellowship’ is bridging that gap.

“Just because someone goes to prison, they don’t stop being a parent,” said manager Josh Hubbard. “They don’t stop loving their kids and caring about them, and the importance of the role they play in their kids’ lives doesn’t go away.”

Hubbard said one in fifteen Alabama children has an incarcerated parent, and their absence can make the holidays a difficult time.

“There’s obviously a gap there,” he said. “They don’t get to see their parent. They don’t get to hug them. They don’t get to have those memories that Christmas can be so special in creating.”…
