Victim, suspect identified in Morgan County shooting

HARTSELLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office says one person is dead and another has been detained after a shooting near Hartselle.

MCSO said the shooting happened in the 1100 block of Alabama Highway 36 east, just outside of Hartselle. A sheriff’s office spokesperson said the call regarding the shooting came just before 2:45 p.m.

The sheriff’s office said a man was found at the scene with a gunshot wound. MCSO originally said that the man was being treated by medical personnel, but said they had died as of 3:48 p.m.

The Morgan County Coroner has identified the man killed as Steven Eric McCulloch, 34, of Hartselle.

Authorities also said the suspected shooter was taken into custody on the scene. MCSO identified the man arrested as Roger Timothy Clayton, 67, of Hartselle. The sheriff’s office said Clayton was arrested on pending murder charges…
