North Alabama city files suit against juvenile center after runaways, riots and police visits

A North Alabama city has filed suit against a controversial mental health treatment facility for girls that’s been called a public nuisance.

The city of Owens Cross Roads in Madison County filed suit against Pathways, demanding it cease operations. Facility owners dispute the claims and said there is “no legal or factual basis for the lawsuit.”

The facility has been operating as a behavioral treatment center for troubled girls for more than two decades but has changed names and ownership several times. It first opened as Three Springs, New Beginnings in the early 2000s. It was then bought by Sequel TSI. In 2022, owners changed its name to Brighter Path as part of a corporate rebrand after several lawsuits claiming severe mistreatment to its residents.
