MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Alabama’s second state veterans cemetery will be located in Madison County, Rep. Dale Strong announced on Wednesday.

The 150-acre cemetery will be located east of Huntsville on Maysville Road. It will include ground crypts, traditional graves, columbarium niches, and a scatter garden, along with a committal shelter and administrative buildings.

Strong, who helped bring the project to fruition, said the initial plan includes creating 15 to 20 acres and then adding to that every 10 years.

He secured a $13.5 million federal grant to supplement $25 million in state funding for the cemetery.
