Athens city leaders respond to Bonnie Doone tenants plea for help

ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) — Tenants living in the Bonnie Doone apartments and their advocates addressed Athens city leaders on Monday about helping them to do something to alleviate the poor living conditions at the housing complex.

Those issues include inoperable heating units, leaking pipes that are causing mold, no pest control, and abandoned buildings that have caused safety concerns.

“We owe it to our citizens, to our economically challenged citizens to do something to help them to live in quality, affordable and healthy home situations,” said Wilber Woodriff, President of the Limestone County NAACP.

“People are living in Bonnie Doone, and the different areas are a problem,” said Minister Ollie Turner. We and the city of Athens need to come together on this issue.”…
