ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – Athens Police Chief Anthony Presnell says the intersection at Hine Street at Highway 72 has been an issue for a long time.
“We’ve had several have been hit over the last several years, and several of them were fatalities,” Presnell explained.

With no crosswalk in place, pedestrians have taken their lives into their own hands while crossing over the busy Highway 72. The chief said even in just the past two years, his department has investigated several times where someone was hit by a car.
“You got a lot of east-west traffic right over there, people coming into town and leaving town so, yes, it’s a very busy intersection,” Presnell said…
