The Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments (TARCOG) has reopened its Senior Community Service Employment Program after a period of funding uncertainty last year.
Participants were furloughed on July 1, 2025, due to potential federal funding cuts. In November, TARCOG was notified that funding would continue, allowing workers to return. The program is now funded through June 2026.
A major update is a pay increase from $7.25 to $12 per hour, made possible through a pilot program. Participants may work up to 29 hours per week, providing meaningful financial support for seniors seeking part-time employment.
