Program gives job training for ages 55 and older

Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments’ senior employment program has been reinstated and is seeking 48 people 55 years and older who need a part-time job.

The Senior Community Service Employment Program provides participants in five North Alabama counties with paid on-the-job training so they can learn new skills, update their existing skills and get work experience, with the goal of securing permanent employment. They are assigned to a government or nonprofit agency in their communities.

And veterans are a priority in the program, according to the program’s manager John Sanders. He said there are now 38 participants, and eight of those are veterans…
