MONTGOMERY, Ala. — North Alabama is set to receive more than $2.3 million in federal funding through two Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations bills, aimed at supporting law enforcement, emergency communications, research, and infrastructure projects across the region.
The funding will support a variety of local priorities, including:
- Lawrence County: $1.2 million for emergency communications infrastructure
- Alabama A&M University: $250,000 for cameras and gun-shot detection technology
- Somerville Police Department: $199,762 for body cameras and a law enforcement vehicle
- City of Decatur: $325,000 for law enforcement vehicles
- DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office: $354,000 for an armored vehicle
Funding also provides significant support for NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, including more than $1.3 billion for the Space Launch System, over $2 billion for Human Landing System development, and $110 million for nuclear thermal propulsion research.
