MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — Madison Fire & Rescue has switched to a 48/96 work schedule, giving firefighters two 24-hour shifts followed by four days off.
The move is aimed at improving morale and providing more time for family and personal life.
Madison Fire officials said that the new schedule will provide the following:
- Increase the consecutive time at home with family
- Improve sleep quality
- Lessens the stresses of shift work
- Allows for additional recovery time between shifts
- Support better mental health
- Provide fewer shift changes
- Cuts the number of commutes to work in half
- Maximizes members’ vacation time
Madison Fire added that the decision came after a lot of research and recommendations were made by several members within the organization. A department-wide vote followed those recommendations…
