Madison Fire & Rescue adopts 48/96 shift for better work-life balance among first responders

MADISON, Ala — Madison Fire & Rescue has officially transitioned to a new 48/96 shift schedule, something its chief identified as a priority when she assumed the top role at the department in 2025.

Under the new schedule, firefighters will work 48-hour shifts followed by 96 hours off duty, replacing the previous 24/48 rotation where personnel worked one day on and two days off.
