Decatur to remove advertising signs from streets and intersections over safety concerns

DECATUR, Ala. — Decatur will begin removing advertising signs from streets, medians, and intersections after officials said the displays can create hazards for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

City leaders are asking businesses, organizations, and residents to remove any signs in the public right-of-way by February 15, 2026, before crews start discarding them during routine street maintenance. Signs attached to stop signs, traffic signals, utility poles, or placed at street corners and medians are included.
