Madison Fire & Rescue changes shifts, allowing for ‘more family time’

MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — Firefighting is a physically and mentally demanding job. That’s part of why Madison Fire & Rescue is prioritizing recovery time with a new shift schedule.

The department is now operating on a 48/96 schedule. Captain Dan Pickens told News 19, “It’s just a better fit for us.”

Firefighters will now work for 48 hours on and have 96 hours off. Previously, they worked 24 hours on and had 48 hours off.
