HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A Madison County Circuit Judge has set a trial date and issued new directives in the City of Huntsville’s legal effort to permanently shut down 708 Bar & Grille, a North Huntsville establishment the City has labeled a public nuisance.
In an order electronically filed Thursday, Judge Ruth Ann Hall scheduled a final hearing for May 26 at 9 a.m.
Court Addresses Pro Se Motions
The order also directly addressed a series of recent filings submitted by property owner Malcolm Gopher, who had submitted multiple motions on his own behalf.
Judge Hall noted that Gopher is represented by legal counsel and cautioned that self-filed (pro se) motions are improper while a party has an attorney of record. The judge further warned that any filings appearing to represent the interests of 708 Bar & Grille, LLC could be considered the unauthorized practice of law.
