Limestone County man shot while attempting a robbery

The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a home invasion with shots fired around midnight on Wednesday, Feb. 11.

Upon arriving at 1800 Highway 99. deputies learned that the suspect had fled after being shot by the homeowner. The Criminal Investigation Division responded and launched an investigation to process the scene. While on the way, reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound was reported at Decatur-Morgan Hospital, which investigators followed up on.

They discovered that evidence showed that a Hartselle man named Tanner Stewart Phillips, 31, allegedly broke into a vehicle outside the victim’s home. After the homeowner confronted him, Phillips pointed a rifle at him and chased him into the house…
