Huntsville Police credit license plate recognition techology in arrest of fugitive, capture of kidnapping suspect

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Huntsville Police are crediting license plate recognition technology as a key factor in two separate investigations last week, including one that led to the safe recovery of a missing 16-year-old.

Police said that last Monday, around 4:30 p.m., officers and the North Alabama Multi-Agency Crime Center (NAMACC) were alerted to a fugitive wanted in Atlanta for a violent felony, 52-year-old Maurice Sherell Mitchell.

Investigators identified a vehicle linked to Mitchell and entered the license plate into the recognition system…
