Limestone Co. leaders to discuss jail expansion options on Monday

LIMESTONE CO., Ala. (WAFF) – The first step towards handling the constant overcrowding issues in the Limestone County’s will soon be underway.

The Limestone County Commission will meet Monday to discuss options for addressing overcrowding at the county jail, including whether to expand the current facility or build an entirely new one.

The commission is currently overseeing a $4 million project to add 50 beds to the jail within the next month, bringing the total bed count to 390. Sheriff Josh McLaughlin says the addition is a necessary short-term step, but that smaller upgrades will not be sufficient long-term…
