‘We can’t assume:’ ATF trains prosecutors on arson in live demonstration

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WBMA) — Prosecutors stood just feet away as flames climbed the walls and smoke rolled across the ceiling inside a controlled burn building. Within minutes, both rooms were fully engulfed. The demonstration was intentional.

Federal investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives set two nearly identical rooms on fire as part of a training designed to help prosecutors better understand how arson cases are built — and challenged — in court.
