HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is moving forward with a key step in a major project on Memorial Parkway as crews prepare to install the final bridge girders for a new overpass.
Installation of the final bridge girders on the US-231/US-431/North Memorial Parkway overpass at Mastin Lake Road in Huntsville started on Wednesday night and will continue on Thursday.
According to ALDOT, contractors will use cranes to raise a total of 12 girders — long, horizontal beams that will support the bridge deck — into place on the south span of the overpass. The overpass is the centerpiece of a $34 million project…
