Fake St. Patrick’s Day bar crawl scam targets downtown Huntsville visitors

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – People celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in downtown Huntsville this weekend paid to join a bar crawl advertised online, only to find out the event was not real.

The listing named real bars in the downtown area as stops on the crawl. It promised a two-hour event featuring challenges and bar stops within about a half mile of each other. Victims told bar staff they found the event online and paid to participate.

Dave Matlock, Director of Operations at The Poppy and Parliament in downtown Huntsville, said this is the second time customers have shown up after being scammed by the same type of listing. The first incident occurred during St. Patrick’s Day last year…
