The Madison County Commission last week approved a $6.8 million architectural and engineering contract for the new Madison County Courthouse, awarding a contract to Goodwyn Mills + Cawood, who will work with local architects Matheny Goldmon Architecture and Interiors.
The contract is just a small part of the total $100 million projected cost of the new building.
New Courthouse in Madison County
The current courthouse was built in 1967, which means by the time the new courthouse is completed, it will have stood longer than the original courthouse, which was built in 1914.
Some issues with the current facility include ADA compliance, plumbing issues, HVAC problems and electrical upgrade needs. The County Commission will look at multiple design options, including the possibility of splitting the courthouse into two buildings…
