Judge to decide on resentencing for man convicted of killing Grant police chief

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – A judge is considering whether to give the man convicted of killing Grant Police Chief Verlon LeMaster a chance to be paroled after two days of arguments.

Brian Butler was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for a crime he committed when he was 17 years old. The U.S. Supreme Court has since overturned the law mandating that sentence, leading to this week’s resentencing.

At the end of the hearing, Judge Tim Jolley said he will be taking a trip out of the country and won’t decide on how to resentence Butler until he gets back…
