Short term rentals become legal in Decatur starting April 1

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — As the City of Decatur is getting ready to host thousands of visitors for it’s first ever Rock the South music festival, major changes are coming to the short-term rental market.

Starting April 1, applications will open for the city’s new short-term rental certification process. The city defines a short-term rental as “overnight stays of fewer than 30 consecutive days.”

Up until now, short-term rentals have been illegal in Decatur. However, that doesn’t mean people haven’t been operating them anyway.
