A century has passed since one of the most infamous crimes in the city’s history unfolded in the early morning hours of March 15, 1926.

That night, a group of robbers seized the Bank of Hartselle on Main Street, making off with almost $15,000 in cash. The men were never caught, and only one person was injured during the ordeal. For generations, the incident has remained a source of local intrigue, remembered for the fear and excitement it brought to the town.

Shortly after midnight, the robbers took control of the area, cutting the town’s telephone and telegraph lines to prevent calls for help. Armed with nitroglycerine, they forced their way into the bank’s safe, using, by some accounts, eight blasts to break it open…
