NEW MARKET, Ala. (WHNT) — From Berryhill Estates in New Market to Ditto Landing in Huntsville, Jeff Williams paddled 43 miles with one purpose: to keep the Flint River clean.
Williams kayaked the stretch of the river in an ongoing effort to raise awareness regarding a private wastewater treatment facility looking to move into his neighborhood’s backyard and discharge waste into the Flint River.

“We want to protect it. We don’t want to let our guards down and turn around and all of a sudden it’s polluted, and no one wants to use it,” Williams said.
The journey took Williams through parts of the river he said he had never seen before, giving him a different appreciation for all the wildlife that calls it home, from bald eagles to turkeys. He said he is worried about what may be lost if the private sewage plant moves in…
