Decatur woman files lawsuit claiming officer assaulted her during arrest at 2024 protest

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – A Decatur woman arrested during a 2024 protest related to the deadly police shooting of Steve Perkins has filed a lawsuit against the City of Decatur and a Decatur police officer.

The lawsuit, filed Saturday by Sierra Taylor, alleges the incident happened in March 2024 near the home of former Decatur Mayor Tab Bowling.

According to the lawsuit, Decatur police officer Jack Brown began pursuing a protester during the incident. Taylor claims that as he ran in pursuit of that person, Brown passed her and struck her in the head with a closed fist…
