Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant’s Unit 3 resumes operations, restoring TVA power capacity

ATHENS, Ala. — Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant’s Unit 3 has returned to the Tennessee Valley Authority electric grid, marking the completion of a scheduled refueling and maintenance outage that began in late February.

TVA announced that the unit has been safely brought back online following inspections, equipment replacements, and maintenance work carried out during the outage. With Unit 3 back in service, all three of Browns Ferry’s reactors are now generating power.

At full capacity, Browns Ferry can produce up to 3,954 megawatts of electricity — enough to power more than two million homes and businesses across the Tennessee Valley…
