Daughter of former Athens city councilman accused of stealing $16K in sportsplex concessions case

ATHENS, Ala. (WAFF) – Athens leaders say a former Parks and Recreation employee and daughter of a former city councilman has been found in violation of the Alabama Ethics Law after an investigation into missing concession money at the Athens Sportsplex.

In a statement released Wednesday, the city said financial discrepancies were discovered in late 2024 involving concession cash receipts.

By March 2025, the city administration and law enforcement had concluded an internal review suggesting that an administrative assistant, identified as Christy Gill-Strong, had taken $16,000 for her own use…
