Artemis II ignites passion at Space Camp, inspiring future astronauts

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — When the solid rocket boosters ignited on the Artemis II mission, even the astronauts had trouble containing their excitement.

“When those solids lit, you know, it was a ride where you’re trying to be professional, but the kid inside of you wants to break out and just hooting and hollering,” said Artemis II pilot Victor Glover.

As the Orion spacecraft speeds toward the moon, the enthusiasm from Wednesday’s launch has reverberated back on Earth — including at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, where Space Camp educators say the mission is fueling a new generation of astronauts…
