Home construction dominated new projects started in the Huntsville area in the first quarter of 2026.
Homebuilders account for four of the top five contractors in the first three months of the year, according to permits pulled by reportconstruction.com. In all, 1,947 permits totaling more than $532 million have been issued in Madison, Limestone and Morgan counties since Jan. 1.
- Madison County issued 809 permits totaling $207.5 million.
- Huntsville issued 623 permits totaling $151 million.
- Decatur issued 151 permits totaling $68.3 million.
- Athens issued 213 permits totaling $60.8 million.
- Madison issued 131 permits totaling $45.7 million.
- Priceville issued 20 permits totaling $3.6 million.

Lennar Homes
Lennar Homes of Alabama is the top builder so far this year. It has been issued 289 permits totaling $54.2 million. Lennar Homes is a homebuilder for the Clift Farm development bordering north Madison off U.S. 72.
