Longtime police dispatcher shares passion for the job during national public safety telecommunicators week

FLORENCE, Ala (WHNT) — Stacy Shipman has been around law enforcement her entire life, but she said she never would have dreamed she would become a police dispatcher.

“I actually grew up in the police department,” Shipman said. “My father was an officer here. So when he retired, he had asked me if I ever thought about doing it, and I had told him no. He said, ‘I think you’d be good at it, give it a shot.’ So I did, and it’s history from there, and I love it. It’s in my heart.”

Now, 27 years into her career, Shipman said she couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
