DECATUR, Ala. — It has been exactly one year since Rochella Scott stood by her cousin’s hospital bed, praying for a miracle that never came.
John Scott Jr. died in April 2025 while in the custody of the Decatur Police Department. A year later, his family says the pain of his absence is only matched by their disappointment in the lack of progress toward what they call “true justice.”
“It’s actually gotten worse since then,” Rochella Scott said. “It’s like they haven’t learned anything because nothing has been done to the officers that actually did this. No accountability has been taken.”…
