DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — On May 7, Decatur Fire & Rescue will officially launch its newest addition, Marine 1, a state-of-the-art rescue boat designed to enhance emergency response efforts.
According to Decatur Fire & Rescue officials, the vessel is named in honor of Daniella, the wife of Civil War General Joe Wheeler.
Marine 1 is equipped with the following:
- Two Mercury Verado 350-horsepower outboard engines
- 3,000-gallon-per-minute (GPM) fire pump
- A 1,500 GPM deck gun
- Dual 5-inch-diameter discharges with hoses
- Sound Navigation And Ranging (SONAR) technology for searching the riverbed
- A spotlight for night and fog operations
- Thermal imaging
