ATHENS, Ala. — The Athens City Council unanimously approved more than $27 million in upgrades to the city’s wastewater treatment plant; a move officials say is necessary to keep pace with rapid population growth and aging infrastructure.
The council voted 5-0 to approve two agenda items: nearly $26 million for construction work and approximately $1.2 million for engineering services tied to Phase 1 of the wastewater treatment plant improvements.
