Exactly one week after a hit-and-run claimed the life of a 7-year-old girl in Hazel Green, the resulting grief has ignited a push for traffic reform in the neighboring community of Toney.
Residents on Cotton Dale Road say the tragedy was a grim confirmation of their worst fears. Mike Adcock, who has spent months petitioning local leaders for increased speed enforcement, said the fatal incident just 10 minutes from his front porch has moved the neighborhood from concern to “terror.”
“The parents, they’ve got to bury their baby because of some idiot speeding,” Adcock said, gesturing to a vehicle passing his home. “People are not paying attention to their surroundings while they’re driving. That’s the number one goal… be aware of your surroundings.”…
