A woman was sentenced Monday in Dekalb County Circuit Court to 40 years in the state penitentiary, consistent with her plea agreement, for her 2021 role in the murder of a Hartselle woman whom she and her mother pleaded guilty to pushing off a cliff.
Jessie Eden Kelly, 24, of Union City, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in August to felony murder after she was originally charged with capital murder along with her mother, Loretta Kay Carr, in the death of Mary Elizabeth Isbell. Isbell was reported missing to the Hartselle Police Department by her ex-husband on Dec. 27, 2021.
A search team made up of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Payne police and fire personnel, Fischer Rescue Squad, the National Park Service and others located Isbell’s remains in Little River Canyon National Preserve on June 28, 2023.
