Near record heat to begin the week

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Get ready for some much warmer air as we kick off the new week. Plenty of sunshine and a southerly wind will help to bump daytime high temperatures into the upper 80s and low 90s on Sunday and Monday.

Muscle Shoals is forecasted to reach 91 degrees on Sunday. This is just three degrees shy of tying the record high of 94 degrees that occurred in 1962. Huntsville is expected to be five degrees cooler than the record of 95 degrees set in 1944.

The low 90s will continue to stick around for Monday and Tuesday, as well. Muscle Shoals and Huntsville saw record heat in 1962, where they reached 96 and 95 degrees respectively. Both cities will be just three degrees below those record high temperatures on Monday. Make sure to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and seek shelter in the shade when spending time outdoors.

The 90s trend will come to an end by the middle of the week as rain chances begin to increase. We are expecting multiple rounds of showers and some thunderstorms that will allow for temperatures to drop back down to more normal temperatures.
