INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis mother who admitted to using heroin and meth during her pregnancy has been sentenced to less than two months in prison after her infant child died.
Kristina Gensheimer, 35, was convicted last month of neglect of a dependent as a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced on Thursday to 40 days in prison after getting 110 days suspended and 380 days of good time credit.
The charge against Gensheimer stems from the death of her 4-month-old baby girl Emma, who died in August 2024 after being found unresponsive inside her near north Indy home.
‘Sudden unexplained death of an infant’
EMS and police crews were called around 11 a.m. on Aug. 25, 2024, to a home on Congress Avenue for an unresponsive infant. Upon arrival, they found Emma with “no signs of life” and took her to Riley Hospital in critical condition.
The child’s mother, later identified as Gensheimer, told officers that she had woken up to find Emma on the floor of the bedroom. When officers arrived, they found Emma with a badly soiled diaper and a limp body…
