Beech Grove teen sentenced to 45 years in prison for deadly robbery during drug deal

BEECH GROVE, Ind. — A teen will serve over 40 years behind bars after being charged as an adult for shooting and killing a woman during a transaction for marijuana in Beech Grove two years ago.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Wednesday that Emanuel Carter was sentenced to 45 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder. In exchange, the state dismissed additional charges of murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury and dangerous possession of a firearm that were pending against him in the case.

On Sept. 29, 2024, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 5900 block of Riva Ridge to investigate a report that a person was shot. Police arrived on the scene and discovered Makayla Bauman suffering from a gunshot wound that ultimately proved to be fatal. She was 18 years old…
