The former co-owner of a Carmel fitness studio pleaded guilty earlier this month to domestic battery and received a one-year sentence.
Brian Matthews, 52, was arrested in December 2025 and charged with felony strangulation and two counts of domestic battery after allegedly assaulting his wife during an argument. The state dropped the felony count and one count of domestic battery, according to the plea agreement.
