Indianapolis Family Had No Working Smoke Detectors and a Man Paid With His Life
Early Monday morning, a fire tore through a home on the 8400 block of East 42nd Street on Indianapolis’ northeast side. By the time it was over, a man in his 60s was dead. So were two dogs.
The fire moved fast. Residents smelled smoke, not an alarm, because there were no working smoke alarms in the house.
What Happened
IFD got the call at 7:14 AM. Within a minute, it was escalated to a Level 1 priority fire with entrapment.
Nearly 50 firefighters responded. Two residents were found trapped on the roof and rescued by ladder. A third, an adult male, was found on the second floor. He didn’t make it. Two dogs died with him…
