“Even the Nuns Are Mad” — Indianapolis Archbishop Excuses Catholics From Mass as ICE Surges Into Indiana

Archbishop Charles C. Thompson of Indianapolis issued a decree on Thursday, Sept. 3 excusing Catholics across central and southern Indiana from Sunday Mass if they fear being arrested on the way there.

The decree took effect Friday and runs through the end of the month. It covers “all those persons living within the Archdiocese of Indianapolis who reasonably fear being detained, separated from their families, or experience intimidation due to the increased immigration enforcement,” and it shuts the door the government’s defenders would otherwise walk through:

“This applies even to those with proper legal documentation.”…
